Championship Baseball - 1924, 1946, 1960, and 2016 Here is your opportunity to relive four of the all time great world series in baseball! This player set features the two league champions from four classic seasons. So you get a total of eight teams as outlined below, all on individual cards.
1924: The 1924 championship features New York vs Washington. In real life Washington won this series in 7 games. Four of which were decided by a single run. The biggest winning margin was four runs.
1946: The 1946 championship features Boston vs Saint Louis. This Series alternated with Boston winning, then Saint Louis, then Boston.... etc until Saint Louis finally won back to back games to win it. The Saint Louis team had legends like Joe Garagiola, Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter, Red Schoendienst. Boston's roster featured Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Dom DiMaggio, and Rudy York.
1960: The 1960 championship features Pittsburgh vs New York. One of my favorites with the famous walk off homer in game 7 by Bill Mazeroski. Needless to say, another classic 7 game series. This was a wild one with the winning team scoring 10 runs or more in four different games. There were also 2 shut outs. Pittsburgh features Smoky Burgess, Dick Stuart, Maz, Dick Groat, Don Hoak, Bob Skinner, Bill Virdon, and Roberto Clemente.
New York's roster had Elston Howard, Bill Skowron, Bobby Richardson, Tony Kubek, Clete Boyer, Hector Lopez, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra, and more! Not too shabby.
2016: I wanted to include a recent classic so chose this one featuring Chicago versus Cleveland. Another 7 game series with game 7 going into extras. Chicago won their first baseball championship since 1908.
